Handmade Albums Family Ties

Kool Tak 3D Glue & Foil Family Ties Album

Have you ever considered all the wonderful women in your life that you are lucky enough to call family?  When I married into the Windham family, I acquired a host of aunts and cousins as well as nieces and a sister-in-law.  These are all strong, talented women. They are artists, photographers, awesome cooks, rodeo stars, beauty queens and decorators.  They all raised another generation of women just like them.  I am so blessed to call them my family, even though there was no blood tie until my son was born. The Windham family needed Handmade Albums Family Ties.

I make a lot of handmade albums and scrapbook pages about my family, but I feel that I have neglected the Windham women, so here it is.  I’ll add photos and journaling later, but I wanted to at least get the covers done and the pages assembled with these wonderful tools from Kool Tak ™: 3D Glue for Embossing Effect and Shiny Transfer Foil Sheets.

I have used foils and foil adhesives in the past, but never with the success I have with these two Kool Tak ™ products. The adhesive holds its shape, creating true dimension, and dries quickly. The foils release easily, but not so easily that they come apart in your hands as some other foils do.

Here’s how I did it:

Materials

Kool Tak ™  3D Glue for Embossing Effect

Kool Tak ™  Shiny Transfer Foil Sheets, Spring Blossoms

Computer-generated or hand-drawn cover design print out, 8 ½” x 6 ½”

Zutter Bind-it-All machine and black O wire

Mat board, black, two pieces, 8” x 6”

Gray card stock, 20 pages, 7 ½” x 5 ½”

Black ink pad

Instructions

1. Create the cover design on computer or draw it directly on the mat board. The computer background should be black or the color of your mat board, and the elements should match your foils closely. This makes it easier to hide any rough edges you may create when applying the 3D glue.

2. On the printout, apply the 3D glue straight from the bottle to cover the areas where you want foil. If you have fine lies, use a small watercolor brush to apply the glue. Allow the glue to dry. The thicker the glue application, the longer time it will require to dry. The 3D glue will become clear.

3. Apply the foils to the glue. You can mix colors or have one color, whichever you prefer. Be sure to save any pieces with foils left on them. They can be used to fill in blank spots on future projects.

4. When you have finished the main graphics and wording, you can add dots of glue to the background to create interest. Allow the glue to dry. Apply the foils in the same colors as your design.

5. Adhere the cover sheet to the front cover of the book and trim the paper edges. Apply the black ink to the edges to hide the white paper edge.

6. Add the pages and finish binding with your Bind-It-All. Note: You can also use similar binding systems or simply use binder rings, and you can also embellish the binding with ribbons and fibers to match your foils.
