Just in time for Father’s Day, here a great little caddy to corral all those little thing’s that can clutter up Dad’s workspace. It can be used for pens, pencils, paper clips and stamps for an office, or even for small hand tools in dad’s workshop, such as allen wrenches, his favorite small screwdrivers and bits and pieces from other tools that need a home.
I knew I could depend on Kool Tak™ products to not only make this project special, but also make it durable so that dad can enjoy it for a very long time.
Here’s how I made it:

Copper Foil (Walnut Hollow) You will need a piece slightly larger than the top of your box.
Wooden cigar box
Alcohol inks and applicator (Ranger Adirondack Alcohol Ink)
Computer-generated Quotation
Copper foil tape, 3/8”
Chipboard, 5 ½” x 6”
Black card stock cut to fit the box top
Black craft paint
Big Shot (Sizzix)
Gadget Gears Die (Tim Holtz for Sizzix)
Assorted texture plates (Sizzix)
Scissors, ruler, craft knife, brush
Instructions
Paint the wooden box with black craft paint.
Trim the copper sheet into 1”strips. Cut each into 1” and 2” pieces.
Run the copper pieces through the Big Shot using assorted texture plates.
Cut the Kool Tak™ Ultra Clear Adhesive Sheet to fit the box top. Mark the area where the quotation will be placed with a ball point pen. Beginning in one corner, peel back the release paper gradually and place the 1” and 2” copper pieces, lining them up on the edges. Leave the quotation area open.
Remove the adhesive rectangle from the quotation area and save it for later use.
Apply alcohol inks to the copper plate using the foam applicator and set it aside to dry.
Trim the outer edges of the sheet 1/8” all around. Place the copper sheet on the black card stock to determine where the quotation should be placed and apply a piece of ½” Kool Tak™ Ultra Clear the card stock to hold it in place. Remove the release paper from the copper sheet and adhere it to the black card stock, centering it.
Place ½” Kool Tak™ Ultra Clear Adhesive Tape around the edges and across the middle of the black card stock, then adhere it to the box top.
Add copper foil tape around the window opening and trim the corners at a 45° angle, removing the excess foil.
Apply Kool Tak™ Punch Adhesive to the chip board and punch it with the Gadget Gears die and Big Shot.
Remove the release paper from the die cuts and apply copper, black and cream Kool Tak™ Shiny Foil to each.
If any of the foil doesn’t stick, it will make the gears look more rustic. If you prefer a cleaner look, just press the foil on the gears until they are completely covered. Attach the gears to the box front with 1/8” Kool Tak™ 3D Foam Squares.
This would make a wonderful gift for any dad, and you have plenty of time to make it before Father’s Day, because the hardest part, designing it, has already been done for you.
