Mat Board Photo Frame

Mat Board Photo Frame

We just spent a week on a family cruise- what fun! The photos from our trip came out so great, I decided to make a mat board photo frame to put on my desk so I could remember this special trip.

I used my Sizzix Mailable Frame die as a base for the mat board photo frame, and then added KoolTak™ adhesives, glitter and foil to embellish the mat board photo frame.

Materials:

Tools List

  • Sizzix ScoreBoard Mailable Frame by Eileen Hull
  • Sizzix Sweet Treats for You by Eileen Hull
  • Sizzix Big Shot
  • craft knife and cutting mat

To assemble the project, gather your supplies.

Die cut the frame using a sheet of 6″ x 13″ mat board and the frame die.

Add KoolTak™ Strips to the frame part of the die. Use KoolTak™ Layer Plus square ruler to line up strips so they are even and level. Before removing release paper from the KoolTak™ Strips, ink the front and back of mat board frame, blending colors into each other and shading from light to dark.

Remove release papers from the vertical KoolTak™ Strips and sprinkle green glitter over the remaining adhesive. If you have some spots that are not covered, spread extra glitter with your fingers to cover the gaps.

With a craft knife, lightly trace over the lines where the two adhesive strips overlap. This way, when you go to peel off the second set of strips, they will come off neatly. Peel off the horizontal strips and lay the foil so the shiny side is facing up over the adhesive.  Burnish the foil with your fingers so the foil will adhere to the tape.  Pull up the foil sheet. Reposition the foil if necessary to make sure all the adhesive areas are covered.

Die cut the flowers and the leaves from the coordinating color paper and then assemble the flowers with the brads.  Use the KoolTak™ Foam Squares to raise up the flowers and make them three dimensional.

Secure one side of the KoolTak™ Hook & Loop oval to the inside flap, remove release paper from the back of the Hook & Loop oval, fold the card and press two opposing sides together. This will match the closure up perfectly. The adhesive is very strong and sticks really well- love this!

If desired, the mat board photo frame may be placed in an A-2 envelope and mailed. The flowers can be easily fluffed once the mat board frame arrives at its final destination. Extra postage (.20) will be required as the material is rigid and will not be able to be rolled through the automated sorter at the post office. I plan on standing my mat board photo frame up as an easel, which is another option when using this die.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
