Recycled Can Organizers

Recycled Can Organizers

When my granddaughter comes visit, the first thing she wants to do is make some “projects”.  The aftermath is not pretty.  So, I decided to decorate some recycled cans to use as organizers for crayons, markers, colored pencils, beads and other accessories.  Although she wasn’t here when I made these, it would be a great project to do with kids.  It doesn’t take much time, is super-cheap and fun!  Recycling is an important thing to be teaching those who come after us and if you can make it into a project that makes sense, it will be more likely to sink in.

You can make your own version of washi tape using just the Kool Tak™ Artist Tape!  I doodled on the tape for the project shown here, but you can also go crazy with rubber stamps. My tip… use a permanent ink like Staz-On to keep the image from wiping off.  Use your Sharpie markers to add a little color to your text.

Materials:

  1. Head to your recycling bin and find containers that will suit your organizing needs: i.e. soup cans work great for the taller items like colored pencils and markers.
  2. Measure the width and height of the can and cut a paper strip to wrap around it.KT-Can-eileenhull.blogspot.com-covering
  3. Apply Kool Tak™ adhesive to the back of the paper strips using the Kool Tak™ Tape Dispenser Gun. The Tape Dispenser gun is a wonderful and cost effective tool to have in your craft studio, but the tapes work without the gun as well.
  4. Tear off strips of the white Artist Tape and doodle on them using permanent markers. (I used a Sharpie). Color in with colored permanent markers. It would have been a good idea to work on my Non-Stick Crafting Sheet but I didn’t think of it until I had stuck the strips to my desk 🙁
  5. Position the decorated tape on the can where desired.
  6. Use other colored tapes to decorate the cans. Fill cans with desired objects and use!

Thanks for stopping by. It was fun to create using just basic supplies I found hanging around the house. Hope you will try it too, especially with your grandkids. They love the time you spend with them!
